Tibetan House Benefit w/ National, Vampire Weekend, Patti Smith...

As much as we were excited to see The National, Vampire Weekend and Patti Smith; the hype was short-lived @ Carnegie Hall. Once we browsed through the list of acts in this benefit, we knew we were simply eff'ed. Why? We got the tickets knowing that there will be 4 acts for this benefit and the program stated more than 4 acts...more like 8-9 including Angelique Kidjo, Steve Earle, Keb Mo'. To further fuel our disappointment, The National and Vampire Weekend played only two songs.

Fortunately, we didnt fork a fortune to sit in the front rows. Well at least we got a temporary treatment for our National and Vampire Weekend withdrawal.

I remember the last time I attended a Tibetan benefit was the Freedom concert at Randalls during my high school days (bjork, dave matthews, radiohead, biz markie, roots etc). I wanted to see this concert simply for the band, not because of a political agenda. Politics is just something I do not like to discuss. Anyway, at the end of the concert, it was pretty obvious that The National was there "just to be there"...for an appearance fee. Oh well, it is what it is...

Empire State Building Run - 16:07

Net Time: 16:07
Rank: 74

This morning, I de'veed my empire state building experience by running up 86 flights of stairs. I honestly don't remember when was the last time I've been to the empire state building. Think Moz, think! I'm thinking maybe...hmmmmm when I was 5 years old coming into this country via Golden Venture? Overall- what a great race. I never thought I would have a great time/workout on this "race" as I have cancelled my application last year thinking to myself "what is the point of this race?" & "what's so fun going up 86 flights when I can do the same deal on the stairmaster?" Luckily after some coaxin' from friends and my pops, I decided to apply. Lo and behold I got in on my first try.

I really had no expectations for this Run-up, but browsed atlast year results and felt like under 18 was doable. I was placed on the last heat and the first flight was mostly just pushing and shoving. Basically from flights 1-20, it was like a death march because theres literally no wiggle room to shimmy out of the crowd. The entropy of runners did not happen until flight 25. I was really rattled on flight 26 when a guy kept breathing to the highest decibel. Seriously, chillax man!
By flight 70, I was ready to be done with the race because my quads....man damn those quads and calves...they were killing me! Until flight 86, I crossed the line and finished outside the empire state run at a time of 16:07. I really don't have a gauge on that performance but overall, it was a great workout. Although I've been hampered with hip and IT issues, I honestly think the 10 mile run from last nite's Monday Nite with TRD really loosened me up.

There has been a bit of a hiccup on the results as it took longer than usual to be posted. If there's any consolation, I've finally beat my buddy K in a race. HAHAHAH SUCKER! (jk) Seriously i highly doubt K gives a shyt since he'll dust wongster and my marathon time at any given day.

After the race, met up with my posse and hopefully we all will apply and be accepted to this race for 2010. One more random note, I've reunited with my old AP Lit classmate, J from BAAAHHHSTON. Holla!

Cheers,
Moz
