Brooklyn Half Marathon 1:32:01 / 7:01 and MASA


Brooklyn Half was an awesome race...well to be honest, I finally PR'ed!!!! As I have stated before- I was planning on a goal time of 1:40. I really wasn't planning to race it but the fact that I was hitting sub 7's till mile 8, made me realize that a PR was very possible. The past two half-marathons has made me very unconfident and that I have to work extra hard to get back to my 2006 shape.

I definitely felt really comfortable out there as opposed to the 2006 NYC Half. I just knew by mile 3, I was able to push a little harder. The fact that I saw tommy, baldy and barry made me realize if I could spot them from afar, I'll be in good shape. In addition, from mile 6 thru 8 I saw uptown- who also gave me an extra boost of TRD cheers.


In the end, I was finally able to run at a time of 1:32:01 / 7:01 pace. This definitely erased the memories of my abysmal performances from my Manhattan Half and possibly the Bronx. I always knew in the back of my head that I could do a lot better, but there was always certain things holding me back. Granted my right hamstring is pretty sore, but what the heck, that's what Motrin is for! (Motrin is my best friend) Well I guess all the weight training on my legs has been working out and the fact that I was able to increase base mileage (50 miles this week after the half via dreadmill) encouraged me to push harder. Overall, I'm ecstatic that I was able to kill my NYC half marathon time and realize that I was able to put all my worries and demons aside and just focus on the race. Hmmm....and yes we drank up at Farrells (Crooklyn), Patriot (wall st) and American Trash afterwards....good times...good times!

Asides from the Brooklyn Half, we went to MASA at Columbus Circle the day before. The chef's omakases was amazing; 12 courses overall. Albeit pricey, it was hands-down better than Sushi Sasabune Oahu or NYC. Granted it was expensive, but it was once in a lifetime experience...yes it was good for some carbo-loading before the half; the Uni risotto, tuna sashimi and caviar, shabu shabu, 2 bottles of Chard, as well as the shitake sashami ( i hate mushrooms) was the highlight of the chef's omakase.
