2015: Rehoboth Marathon, Phoenix Half, Fred Lebow Half, Silvermine 25K, CP 10Mi, JoeK 10K

First post of 2015!  Well, it has definitely been awhile since NYC.  No new updates, but still dealing with the same and new struggles.  Last time I posted was when I was recovering from a viral sickness that wrecked my body for 2 weeks before NYC.  In addition, there have been some complications with regards to my father’s health and recovery has been slow.  He is a type that refuses to give into adversity and is a fighter.  Every time I toe down the line of a race, as hard as sometimes not wanting to be there at a race mentally, with the mess going on, I’m sure my father wouldn’t want me to stop doing what I love just because of him.  Lastly, grieving my dog’s passing really affected me.

I admit there are good days where I reminisce the times with Goldie and there are bad patches where I feel a bit lost.  But, one thing for sure is that I’m hoping just being out there in the races and also training would allow me just have a few hours to myself and offer a brief escape of what is currently happening in my life.  Overall, I’m blessed with health, close friends, my love, and family especially my dad who promised me to be there for me on every NYC marathons and will hold him accountable for that…as a result, I’m going to continue racing.  At that’s what I did.  After NYC, there were 6 races including a marathon and a 25K PR (just a few days ago)

Delaware Rehoboth Marathon – 3:03:54

*This was my 37th marathon, 14th fastest and 22nd overall.  I wasn’t expecting much from this race but to enjoy it instead given the fact that I wasn’t sure how my recovery post NYC was going to be.  The race was scenic and fair course with a few rolling hills and trails on the last few miles.  This was a very nice low-key race and I wouldn’t mind doing this race for 2015.  During this race, I was hoping to keep mile under 7 but that clearly did not happen as the wheels came off early around mile 17 and cramped on both legs from miles 23 and onwards.  Overall, I was happy with my time given the fact that I had no expectations and fought through the race to gain some normalcy despite life events.

Joe Kleinerman 10K – 39:14

*First race of 2015, and I definitely felt slow out there.  This is probably a case of not being at the team workouts and without any type of speed work.  I felt very flat out there and needed a lot of fine tuning

NYCRuns Central Park 10 Miler – 1:04:06

*Coming back to a 10mile races after a 10K 24 hours before was tough “to get back to it” mentally.  I felt very consistent throughout this race and did not mentally drift.  Overall solid effort and hopefully a better comeback in the future

RnR Phoenix Half Marathon – 1:24:56

*This was a quick 36 hour trip from NYC to Phoenix.  What an escape from the brutal winter!  Perhaps it was the a beautiful weather that got me pumped up for the first 2 miles then fell apart rather early!   I think I was able to hold it together and salvage a 70% AG.  Despite the time, it wasn’t the time that I was expecting but I remembered last year hitting these times was not part of the struggle like this time.  I believe the cause of this was again, the lack tempo and track effort workouts.  I need to get back into it. This was part of my 40 day running streak from December 11, 2014-January 18, 2015!

Fred Lebow Half Marathon – 1:24:49

*Back to back halves within 2 weeks.  My legs felt ok and a good take away was perhaps the last 2 miles where I was able to pick it up.  Overall, I love this half marathon and with two loops of the Harlem hills provided a great workout.  Despite being a minute slower than last year, I was ok with it.  I know I have a lot of work to do!

Silvermine 25K – 1:42:41 (PR)

*First PR of the year.  Finally…and my quads are really trashed.  As a tune-up for Boston, I needed some hills for breakfast.  Overall, I was very pleased with this result as I was very consistent just showing up and working hard on tempo workouts.  Quite frankly, I needed this race for some confidence building.  I’m definitely still in the work in progress stage, but hopefully slowly but surely I want to get back to my summer of 2014 or 2013 shape.
