2010 Ultimate XC Mont Tremblant 56K - 11:23:12

This was my third consecutive Ultimate XC event in Quebec.  Unofficial Time for the 56K: 11:23. Funny thing was Ruda and I were panicking when two hours and 25 minutes have elapsed during the brook running. She basically said "Ken...WE ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE IT". Great...just great...travelling to another "country" only to get cut after two and half hours of running. This majorly blows. Fortunately, we made the cut-off on the first transition by less than 2 minutes! Whew - Talk about cutting it close!

After the brook crossing, I was almost in last place; right before the course sweeper. How demoralizing was that? Suffice to say...extremely humbling. However, I never gave up and ended up passing 8-9 runners along the way, made it through all the cut-offs and eventually caught up to my other running mates Cass & JR.

Quite frankly, there were thoughts of DNF's after cutting so close on the brook crossing. I told myself there was no way I could make it to all the transitions in time! Somehow as time went on, I felt a bit stronger and maybe it was due to the fact that I was hauling arse NOT to get cut off! To counter the negative thoughts throughout the course I reminded myself that I did not travel this far to get cut-off. Eventually, eleven hours and 23 minutes later (unofficial), I finished.

This time around, the bug situation was a lot better. Only came up with 3 bites and some cuts. However, my body is totally whack now. I'll say 3 days of no running? Recovery sucks!

Transition time (start time ~ 7:15)

Great job! You passed me a little after aid station six. You looked strong! I didn't make the 8-hour cutoff at aid station seven. I got to watch you run through the village while I was eating dinner. Congrats!
