Gridiron 4M - 25:09 / 6:17 & Utada @ Irving

Chip Time: 25:09 (PR)
Pace: 6:17
Rank: 121/5237
Age Grade: 67.1%

3 NYRR Races and 5 more to go (not counting the NYC Marathon). This was my 5th consecutive racing weekend and 3rd consecutive PR. Eventhough I'm registered for the Cherry Tree Relay in two weeks, my next real race will be the Silvermine 25K at the end of February.

I couldn't decide whether I should race this one or not since my legs seemed to be stuck on the same gear after hitting 25 miles through saturday. In addition, I wasn't sure if it was a smart move to race after a week of a marathon. But I figured, since it was a 4 Miler and I may as well just do it since I desperately need to get my 9 races in.

It took me awhile to get into the groove then I paced with yasahiro first, then my friend Christina of CPTC till the end of the race. She did awesome btw, then met up with a few dogs and Vin at the end of the race to catch up. Overall, I'm very happy with the result and to achieve my 3rd straight PR feels pretty good especially when I HATE running in this bone chilling 17 degree weather. In addition, I'm glad that I won't need a racing mindset till the end of February and rest up before the National DC and Boston Marathon; which reminds me that it will be in 12 weeks! EFF ME!

So lastly my mom called and questioned: "Ken, why do you race so much? You need to rest"; I don't know really, but all I can say is I just love training for races and marathons. Especially being a former fattie and almost topping near 200 lbs a couple of years ago, really pushed myself to stay fit and healthy - put this vicious cycle to an end.

One more thing, 66% of the runners "rooted" for the Saints via placemats. I think that is an error. The disparity is mainly due to the fact that the runners bunched in on the left placemat (saints) heading to the quick left turn!

Splits:
01: 6:28:48
02: 6:12:33
03: 6:22:64
04: 6:07:53

Utada Hikaru @ Irving Plaza

Utada's music warped me back to my college days. It was great to finally see her live. She was good but not great. Obviously she could fit a venue as big as hammerstein, however her vocals are a bit lacking; hence Irving will do. Overall, a good show and for her being a huge Smiths fan was a plus ha! Surprisingly, she has a very diverse following as I was expecting a lil' tokyo. Although with the crazy enforcement of media equipment, I was able to take a few pics from the BB; enjoy-

And Tracey's b'day Extravaganza @ the Brooklyn Inn

That's a nice time for so quick after the marathon. I know a lot of people say to take a long break, but I've found success in racing soon after marathons too.
