2010 Manhattan Half: 1:26:11 / 6:34 & White Rabbits @ The Bowery

Chip Time: 1:26:11 (PR)
Pace: 6:34
Rank: 214/5441
Age Grade: 68.7%

This was my 3rd consecutive racing weekend. I was not expecting a PR for this course since my main focus was to stay healthy for Miami. For some reason, I felt I started a bit easier on the first half and went faster on the second. I certainly didn't "feel" I pushed hard enough on the first half. However, the splits tell a different story. Maybe it is the fact that I was exerting more on the second half; giving me the notion of "going faster". On the second loop I had some assistance as I latched onto another runner to pace with. He was cool with it; another proof validating that runners are just awesome people. Thanks Vin! I'm still surprised with this PR since I never do well during the winter season.

Next week is the Miami Marathon and hopefully I can leverage this race for some confidence and redemption after last years' Miami Marathon debacle. Again, no goal-time, will race depending on feel and not do anything stupid as I would like to have a consistent 2010 season. Furthermore, with the National DC, Boston, Providence or NJ marathons coming up in a few months, Miami would be a good race to gauge on my fitness and see other areas I need to work on. Till then, I can't wait to head back to Miami/Key West!

Obviously I was hurting on the pic below. Damn, I need a happy pill after the race. Next time, I'll remember to smile with two thumbs up.
