9 Days....

Wow...the nerves are kicking in as I'll be running my 3rd NYC in 9 days. I will be on Wave 1, Corral E (9XXX). I'm not going to complain my start number because I have the foggiest on how it is going to pan out. But I'm sure I kept myself honest when inputting the data for the marathon application ;)

Last year's NYC was a huge turning point after my 2006 NYC fiasco. 2006 NYC really hit me hard. Physically, my ankle was ok after several weeks, but mentally, it took me till April 2007 to recuperate. The experience goes to show me that anything can happen in a marathon. Granted anyone can say "yes you finished it with an injury and you should be proud of yourself". However, the truth is, I wasn't. At that moment, with each excruciating step leading to a sharp pain on the ankle as well as slowing down drastically was completely demoralizing. As much as I would like to forget that performance, it will always be in the back of my head. The truth is, I'm forever humbled.

As for the turning point, 2007 NYC gave me the belief that I can push hard and come up with a respectable time; and eventually a chance to BQ. After what happened at the Hamptons, I'm going to try my best to slow down on the first half and see what happens on the second. In essence, I have to run my own race and not let any pacers or other rabbits influence my pace.

Yes it is true, I can confirm that I have registered for Philadelphia and Miami. I know it can be crazy on my part to run the number of marathons on that given timeframe. However, mentally, it just works for me. But for 2009, I'll be on a leaner running schedule. I won't be racing as much and just focusing on the races that I want to compete on as well as increasing my weekly mileage.

Sorry for the shameless promotion of Kara Goucher...although Carrie Tollefson is a notch hotter....But Kara was raised in Queens! Gotta' root for the NYers ;)

Nice abs...

Cheers,
Moz
