Fitness Game 4 Miler: 25:41 / 6:25
Chip Time: 25:41 (PR)
Age Grade: 65.6%
I'm definitely not the most comfortable with the 3-6 milers and I usually find myself struggling at these distances. However, most of my friends planned to race the Fitness 4 Miler and the freebies (well not for me!) was too good to pass up. The current conditions due to the imminent tropical storm and humidity made the race difficult. Damn, and I was supposed to love the humidity! Quite frankly, the conditions were tough and I was already sweating like a mad-man at the start upon meeting DK. In addition, it was pretty tough to breathe as I honestly felt like putting up the white flag before mile 2 and starting my mile split at 6:09. I started too fast...that was when i knew i was totally phucked.
Despite all of these factors, there's really no excuses, because EVERYONE is running the same condition as I was, so why complain, why now? As I slowly got back into my rhythm on mile 3, I picked up the pace a bit as I told myself that I would be done with this race in a few minutes and also was trying hard to keep up with a NYH dude. Hence, complaining the external factors for the race is kinda BS, after-all I'm ultimately in control of my own destiny as I was the one who registered for this damn race! :)
I finished the race in 25:41 and a PR. I really struggled mid-race, but was glad to pick up the pieces and finished without dying or collapsing :). After the race, I got an extra 4 miles under my belt when running with Anchi and on top of that, experienced a looney-tune moment while almost trippin' over a stupid cone near the 72nd transverse. Damn mozzer...da' klutz hahaha! More importantly, today my posse: LL's and Jack's were de-vee'ed as they ran their first NYRR race (45:57 and 31:25 respectively). Congrats!
Ok need to grab some grub...i'm starving!
