Staten Island Half Marathon- 1:30:26 / 6:54

Final Time: 1:30:26 (PR)
Pace: 6:54
Rank: 169/3259
Age Grade: 65.4%

On cloud-9...for a good reason, I really wanted to PR on this race. Who would've thought that the elusive sub 7 for a half marathon finally happened in Staten Island?! I decided to run hard because I felt pretty strong during the weekly runs with K. I was a nervous wreck coming into the race w/ wongster because I was just afraid that my body did not get enough rest since I didn't get home till 2am after the National concert. Fortunately my nerves dissipated after jokin' & chattin' up with nate, baldy and southerndawg (whom we found out will be another one of our concert buddies) With drinks at Underground, Sweetwater and Music hall I knew I was going to pay a heavy price for the next day.

Basically for the race, my plan was to keep my pace around sub 7s for as long as possible...and that's what I did (except for Mile 8 (with that stupid hill) and 10 & 11). In addition, I knew if I could pass K for the first few miles I should be in good shape for a PR. Unfortunately K passed me on mile 6...that bastard! :)

This race has changed my thoughts on Staten Island....the crowd support were amazing! Compared to all the halves and despite the PR, this is my favorite half marathon. The remaining .1 mile to the end of the finish line was definitely very special. I totally dig it! ;)

After the race, we put on another 3-4 miles to add it as our long run. Furthermore,I finally completed the Grand Prix series...now where's my badge and t-shirt?

Cheers,
Moz

Solid work there. I need to get my ass signed up for some races. For some reason, Minneapolis doesn't have the same amount of races. Odd.
