The Dears @ Bowery Ballroom and Two Birthdays

Another week, another rock event. Below are some pics from The Dears concert at the Bowery Ballroom to promote their new album "Gang of Losers". The Grates opened the show. Her crazed onstage antics made her look like a brunette high on crack. At one point she was doing some continuous high-kicks and almost fell on the drumset. I was pretty close to an outburst of laughter if that were to happen. I found the lead vocalist of the Grates annoying with her whiny combination of Janis Joplin and Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) voices. Also, she did certain things that kinda' annoyed me as in twirling a ribbon; who does that? Nevertheless, she was fun to watch as the first "comedic" act.

Ok, enough of the Grates and back to The Dears. Looking back, I remembered becoming a fan of The Dears when their "alternative/art/emo" music was introduced by Duncan Sheik. At times, Murray's voice is very similar to Morrissey's (Re: Lost In The Plot). Anyway, we saw them last year at the same venue, and Murray the lead vocalist of The Dears and a self-proclaimed Morrissey-crazed fan, totally rocked the house down!!!

We arrived pretty early around 8:30 at the venue even though The Dears were to be on at 10pm. Hence, we decided to drown ourselves with 3-4 Jack/cokes before the start. As we slowly weaved through to the front of the pack, I lost my favorite cap (which was placed on my back pocket) and was later found sitting on the floor near a puddle of beer. Heck, who would ever snatch a smelly cap anyway?!?!?! :)

To digress, during the concert, we made friends with other fans who shared similar musical interests such as The Smiths/Morrissey, Keane, Jet, Postal Service/Death Cab, Killers, Sufjan, The Doves, Strokes etc etc.

Here's the Setlist:

-Sinthro
-Ticket to Immortality
-Bandwagoneers
-Whites Only Party
-Death or Life We Want You
-Lost in the Plot
-Die
-We Can Have It
-22: Death of All the Romance

-There Goes My Outfit
-Mountains
-Encore: Postcrd from the Purgatory
-I Fell Deep

The Sigma Epsilons had a double whammy yesterday where we took Ghetto and Ace to Rosa Mexicano for their 26 bday! The food was ok, although the duck was a bit cooked even though I asked for a medium rare. Regardless, we were drunken-happy after a few sangrias and margaritas. Happy 26 FOCKERS! :)

Aloha and Cheers,

Moz

Drum Kit Disaster.

Not a bad name for a punk band.

I agree with that assessment of Rosa Mexicano...I found the food for the most part to be just ok overpriced...the margaritas too. however, the guac they made for us right at the table was awesome.

maybe i'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning...
